6:00 AM – Getting Ready for the Day
The alarm goes off and I’m up. Shower, dressed, ready to roll. My outfit is already planned based on the weather because layers are key. We cannot spend the day sweating or freezing, no matter where in the country we are. Coffee is non-negotiable… it doesn’t matter what kind, it just needs to be there.
7:00 AM – Heading Out
I jump into a rideshare or rental car and head to the shoot location. Mentally running through the checklist: camera, scripts, releases. Everything needs to be set before we hit the ground. No surprises.
7:30 AM – Meeting the Crew and Adjusting the Plan
I meet up with the production team: a videographer and a photographer who also pilots the drone. We finalize the plan and shift things if needed. The weather always has an opinion, so we adapt. Outdoor shots come first to beat the lunch rush and get that perfect morning light. Summer shoots? The earlier, the better unless we want everyone melting on camera.
8:00 AM – Getting Started
Time to roll. I meet the people we’re filming, hand out release forms, and get everyone prepped. Some are naturals, some need a little coaching, and that’s all fine. We move fast to knock out the outdoor shots while natural lighting is in our favor.
12:30 PM – Lunch On The Go (Literally)
Lunch is brief and always a fun kind of chaotic. Some days, we can have a proper sit-down with everyone involved. Other days, I’m juggling a burrito while answering calls and racing to the next location. Whatever keeps the day moving and our brains working.
1:00 PM – Indoor Interviews
With the outdoor shots done, we head inside for interviews and any extra footage. Indoor shoots bring their own chaos. Bad lighting, unexpected background noise, people wandering into the frame all happens… but we roll with it. I keep things moving and do my best to help people feel comfortable on camera. No need for robotic, over-rehearsed lines. We want real, natural conversations.
4:00 PM – Last-Minute Requests
There’s always something extra at the end of the day. Another take, a different angle, one last clip. We always squeeze it in if we can. The goal is to leave with everything we need; it means we’ve made the absolute most of the shoot and everyone’s time.
6:00 PM – Helping Files Find Their Way
We pack up, back up the footage, and call it a day. The team always tries to have a dinner together if our schedules allow. If flights keep us from one another, it’s straight to the back to try and catch our flights while keeping the cameras safe.
